I have spent over a decade, meeting and interviewing hundreds of changemakers from across the globe, to better understand the drivers of the Social Economy and its impact on our world and future. In 2016, I set off on a mission to document and showcase the inspiring stories of changemakers and social innovators for my book Generation Share.

My intention was to discover and bring to public attention the extraordinary work of these remarkable people and communities saving and transforming lives by building a caring, inclusive, sustainable Sharing Economy, the 21st Century phenomenon that is changing the way we think, live and do business. I define the Sharing Economy as a system to live by where we care for people and planet and share available resources in any way that we can. Over time, and given some of the misconceptions, myths and misrepresentations of the Sharing Economy, I have come to describe this sustainable, people-planet focussed economy as a Social one.

My research has taught me that there are characteristics that set changemakers apart. I’ve discovered that despite hailing from diverse backgrounds, genders, religions, communities, geographies and classes, some are social entrepreneurs, community leaders, innovators, teachers, business people or simply individuals striving to make change, that there are 6 character traits that define the anatomy of a change-maker.
