The Swahili word for "angel" is MALAIKA
Before Malaika, the village of Kalebuka in southeastern DRC had no access to electricity, clean water, or educational facilities. In Noella’s words, “The girls arrive from their home where they sleep on the floor, and for the very first time they use toilets, they eat a with fork and knife”.
Malaika’s work incorporates the following four components (next pages), and crucially, this community-driven approach acts as a model that can soon be replicated on a global scale in communities across the world: The Malaika Model, the ECHO system develops the school, community center, wells and agricultural components in the village in a way that can be sustainably duplicated.
KEY 1: THE SCHOOL
Founded in 2007, Malaika is a nonprofit that impacts thousands of lives in the DRC through enhanced access to education, health programs and clean water.
