Six Senses Laamu, Maldives

It’s a tough gig to make island resorts that have to import everything sustainable, but what sets Six Senses Laamu aside is its work with the surrounding community. The resort’s Eku-Eky Program, which means ‘together’ in the local language Dhivehi, brings together representatives from the atoll to discuss sustainable development. Shared goals include making Laamu the first plastic-free atoll — Six Senses funded water refill stations in 21 schools, helping 3,724 students avoid over 1 million single-use plastic water bottles per year.
