Many major celebrations circle around December 21st.
It is the day of the winter solstice, an astronomical event
marking the shortest period of daylight and longest
night of the year. During one brief moment, on this day,
the sun is at its minimum elevation in the sky. Various
cultures mark this time of year by spending time with
family, singing, with fires or festivals.
