Sólheimajökull Glacier Walk is a thrilling
yet nerve wracking experience which is
right next to an active volcano (eruption
overdue!). Glaciers are ice sheets where more
ice remains solid than melts and forms over
thousands of years – hugely boosted by the
last Ice Age about 12,000 years ago. This
glacier, like many, is shrinking and flowing
into the Atlantic Ocean – the glacier that used
to reach to the location of the car park 100
years ago is now a 1km walk to reach. This
experience was unlike anything I have done
before – it required a mix of skill and thought,
yet was fun and allowed you to explore the
glacial landscape.
Overall, Iceland is a beautiful country full
of geographical richness which, whilst it is
expensive, is well worth visiting due to the
uniqueness of the country and its landscape.
