How to Paint with Light by Francesca Glover (11) TO PAINT WITH LIGHT YOU WILL NEED: 1. 2. * a camera * various different light sources * a darkened space * a tripod importantly, lots of imagination. * and, most First of all, you need to make your surroundings as dark as possible so shut any curtains and try to block out all the light. If you are doing it indoors and you have not got a clear wall, you may want to hang up a plain white sheet in front of the door. 5. Experiment with different lights. Some lights, e.g. torches, were thicker than others. I tried small glowsticks but they were slightly too dim so they hardly showed up. 6. Next, you are going to have to set up your tripod and camera. 4. 3. After you have done that, you’ll need to set your camera to a slow shutter speed. The speed varies depending on the brightness of the light. 7. You might be happy with the results, but if you want more, to make a few adjustments or even add a background, you can do this in Photoshop. Finally, you have got your picture! Now you’re ready to start painting with light. Get a light, a willing friend to hit the shutter release, and start waving the light around.
