Makeup is a pretty common subject among teenaged girls. Whether it be asking if you should start wearing it, how to start wearing it, or what to start wearing.

Some big factors in the decision to start wearing makeup for the first time are 1, budget. 2, availability. And 3, parental permission. There are more factors, of course, but right now I'm just going to talk about these.

For the first two, (budget and availability) I can help! Most people don't realize it, but you can make your own!

It's actually better to make your own for several reasons. First of all it's cheaper, obviously. But it's also way, way better for you. Makeup can actually do a lot of damage to your skin over time. Making your own is great, because most of what you can make is actually edible!

It's also good because instead of having to run to the store (which can be easier said than done, depending on how old you are), you can just whip some up yourself.

You can also buy some pretty cheap makeup at most drug stores, however, this makeup is both very low quality, and even worse for you. It will likely come off after a small amount of time, and generally not look as good.

As for parental permission, that can be a tad harder. Perhaps you can just start with a bit of lip gloss, then lipstick, then ask if you can start wearing a bit more. They may be more inclined to say yes if you can show them the ingredients list of mostly organic products.

I personally am almost 16 and have never worn makeup, but there is no pre-set age for when to wear it. Another important note is that you don't have to wear it at all. It is totally 100℅ okay to not wear makeup if you don't want to. It's not a requirement at all. It's all about confidence. If you feel confident not wearing makeup, great. If you feel more confident wearing some, great. It's all up to you.

The biggest question I had when I was looking up wearing it for the first time, was "what the heck do I put on, and how do I do it?". So I looked up some tutorials on YouTube. It looked pretty complicated, so then I tried a makeup blog, which was easier. The best thing I found was what's called the "five product face". Where beauty gurus had to pick the five products they feel they need the most.

The majority of them picked the following;

Foundation.

Concealer.

Blush/bronzer.

Lipstick.

Mascara.

So if I decide to wear makeup, these are the essentials I will start with. You can wear less, you can wear more, it's all a matter of taste. But remember, if you decide to wear makeup, wear it for you and nobody else.
