2016 so growth trend indicators are
very limited. Revenues have been
growing generally on a quarterly
basis, with some seasonal variations.
As can be seen later on in this
report, football is the major driver
of sports betting and hence the
second quarter was substantially
helped by the football World Cup in
Russia occurring at the end of the
period. This helped push revenues
in the second quarter to an all-
time high, bouncing back after a
relatively poor first period of the
year (Table 4).
The growth trend line for the
market overall remains broadly
positive (see Chart 2).
Gaming on the up
From a standing start, gaming
operators have established
themselves with consumers. In 2017
gaming combined (online casino
plus poker) was worth just shy of
45% of the total market. That figure
was static at 45% in the second
quarter of this year as gaming
rebounded from a slight dip in the
first quarter.
Looking year-on-ye
