Slots Showcase 2018 “Players are bored of the same old models and are looking for something new. The developers that can provide that, instead of re-skinning old games, will be the winners in 2018” What are the main challenges in slot development and delivery today?
The main challenge for players, operators, and suppliers alike is sorting the wheat from the chaff. There is so much content out there and a lot of it is pretty bland and generic. There seems to be a bit of a focus on quantity over quality. But I’m not convinced that strategy has much of a future, particularly when you think of the limited real estates of mobile devices. How is a player supposed to find 2,000 games on his phone, let alone play them? We’re hopeful 2018 will mark the start of the pendulum swinging back the other way towards quality. That’s why we’ve taken so much time and effort with Lucky Dice. We’re not pushing content out of the door for the sake of it. The aim is grab players and keep them coming back. What do you see as the major innovative and disruptive trends in the online slots space, and how will your product roadmap in 2018 reflect these?
I think you’re going to see far more 3D slots like Lucky Dice, with incredible graphics. I’m not sure it will ever be on a par with the video games industry, as we don’t invest in the hardware like they do. But I think it is good enough to convert that generation to online slots. I also think we’re going to see new maths models and features that will move the needle again. I think players are bored of the same old models and are looking for something new. The developers that can provide that, instead of re-skinning old games, will be the winners in 2018. iGamingBusiness | Issue 108 | January/February 2018 | 121
