traditions and heritage , presents a rich analysis on deficiencies in the academic world : the " great gap between saying and doing , between academic theory and praxis with respect to the Afro- Argentine subject ". The author dives into the works by writers and specialists to justify his assertion , while emphasizing the participation and impact of the Afro-descendants in diverse Argentine cultural expressions , particularly the music . With the same purpose of recognizing the multifaceted participation of Africans and their descendants in this South American country , Omar Freixa brings the piece “ Two Hundred Years After the Great Andean …” about one of the greatest feats of universal military history : the crossing of the Andean Cordillera by the Army of the Andes ,
commanded by José de San Martín , in which Africans brought as slaves and their descendants played protagonist roles . They have been under-recognized in the historiography , but had a great place in history . In his attempt to recognize the black presence and its contributions to the regional history in Latin American and Caribbean , Freixa provides historically conclusive evidence and testimonies . Our team believes that this line of work on the African presence in Latin America is not only enriching contributions to our magazine , but also significant historical materials that are not available in Cuba and , through Identities , become of great importance for expanding the scope of the struggles and the chances of success by the Cubans .
