Since January of 2014 Mary Teresa Barra has held the position of Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the General Motors Company. Mary is the first female CEO of any major global automaker. By April of 2014 she was featured on the cover of Time’s “100 Most Influential People in the World” edition. She has also been listed numerous times in Forbes, as one of the world’s most powerful women. Most recently, Fortune’s “50 Most Powerful Women” list placed her at the number 1 spot. Mary has been influential in empowering individuals within GM as well as emphasizing accountability and ensuring safety regulations in the auto industry. Her model of “ownership for the rules” has been transformative in both leading a team as well as women around the world toward a better tomorrow.
