yer by area mountain men because of his shrewd mind and combative
nature. Two movies have been made near here: “Told in the Hills” in
1919 and “Breakheart Pass”, in 1979. A great place to take photographs.

Lewiston Overlook
From about 2,700 feet above the cities of Lewiston, Idaho and
Clarkston, WA., and the confluence of the Snake and Clearwater Rivers, you can view three states from here. Lewiston is the second largest
city in North Idaho, behind Coeur d’Alene, and it has the distinction of
being Idaho’s only seaport and the western United States’ farthest inland
seaport. The Lewis and Clark Expedition came through the Clearwater
Valley in 1805 and then followed the Clearwater River from the Bitterroot Mountains to where its meets with the Snake River.
The site is also known as the Confluence Overlook and there is a historical marker at a highway pullout. The view is dominated by rolling,
grassy hills that slope steeply down to the Clearwater River more than
a thousand feet below. Photographers will be challenged to capture the
beauty and scope of the area.

manages the historic trails. A Forest Service visitor center on the Idaho/
Montana border at Lolo Pass serves as the central information station
for the area.
