mainly from emigration from Utah. Ricks Academy began in
1903 and soon turned into Rick College, which by 1995 was the
largest, privately owned junior college in the country. In 2000,
Ricks College’s name was changed to BYU-Idaho.
The major historical event of the 1900s was the collapse of the
Teton Dam and the consequent flood of the town on June 5,
1976. The depth of the water ran from twelve feet on the north
part of town to zero feet as it approached the hills.
Rexburg is a major tourism destination; it is a hub of major
recreation areas being only seventy-four miles from Jackson
Hole, Wyoming, eighty-one miles from Yellowstone Park, and
fifty-five miles from skiing at Grand Targhee. The area streams
team with trout, making fishing a major attraction. Things
to do include hiking, biking, hunting, off road vehicling,
snowmobiling, skiing, and much more. Rexburg is the home of
the Idaho International Folk Dance Festival, offering a chance
for cultural exchange and bonding with people from all over the
world. Rexburg – catch the excitement!

Victor
Established as a township in the late 1800s, Victor is named for
George Victor Sherwood, a postman who devotedly walked the
route between Jackson Hole and the south end of Teton Valley
to bring residents their mail. Today, Victor is truly a sports
enthusiast’s paradise. Bordered by Teton Springs on the south
end and Teton Reserve on the north, a golfer has options to play
on two of the finest courses in the Valley. Hiking and biking
trails overlook the beauty of the Teton Valley, while streams
teeming with four different types of trout are available for the
anglers. In Victor, you are only a stone’s throw away from any
outdoor activity imaginable.
