ICHTHUS - AUTUMN 2018
Sermon of the Year 2018 is a resounding success
Sermon of the Year, a collaboration
between LWPT publication Preach
Magazine and LST is now in
its third year and saw over 150
guests attend the celebration of
preaching.
The evening saw four finalists
preach for 10 minutes each in the
packed college chapel before a
panel of expert judges – Antony
Billington, Head of Theology
From L-R: Preach Editor Louisa Lockwood; Rebecca Coatsworth, runner up; at the London Institute for
Esther Longe, finalist; Corinne Broughton, finalist; Lydia Lee, winner; Amelia Contemporary Christianity; Anne
Gosal, LWPT CEO & Rochelle Owusu, LWPT Comms Manager
Calver, Assistant Minister at
Stanmore Baptist Church; Krish Kandiah, Author and Founder of Home for Good
and Chloe Lynch, LST Lecturer.
It was an exhilarating final with humour, personal testimonies woven between
scriptural references and a narrative sermon as if it was the woman caught in
adultery in John’s gospel.
Lydia Lee’s winning sermon drew parallels between personal fear and the disciples
who were scared of the storm on Lake Galilee, despite being accompanied by Jesus.
Lydia’s vulnerability and honesty juxtaposed with the Word captivated the audience
and judges alike. BBC One were also present filming for The One Show.
