Fundraising in Leeds On Saturday 12th March 2016 Leeds District Methodist circuit held their annual fundraising event to raise money for LWPT. The event was a ‘lunch weekend’ at Hunslet Methodist Church and put on a four-course meal with soup to start, a main course, tasty puddings and cheese course to conclude. The party were joined by the Revd Stephen Burgess (new, temporary Leeds District Chair), and LWPT’s National Advocate, the Revd John Bolton (pictured) - who addressed the event - and his wife, Judy from Devon. The dinner was provided without charge but donations were welcomed and resulted in over £175 being given to LWPT. We are really grateful to everyone who made this day so memorable and worthwhile. The following morning, the Reverend John Bolton led the morning service at Chapel Allerton (Leeds North and East circuit) and Hunslet (South and West circuit). John Witt of the Leeds District circuit said, ‘We felt privileged to have been able to be part of this weekend where God’s name had been praised and the new and exciting innovations of LWPT been made known.’ Could you organise a fundraising event for LWPT to help us raise vital funds to continue our work? Perhaps organise a lunch like in Leeds, a coffee morning, or a church fete. All donations will enable LWPT to support preachers, and would be preachers, in their ministries. Our National Advocate, the Revd John Bolton would be happy to attend your event, calendar permitting. The retreat will be led by Gill Dascombe, former Vice President Methodist Conference and will cost £180 to attend. Contact Katharine Cheney on 01756 794885 or [email protected] for more information. LWPT Grants Thanks to the kind donations from our supporters, we are able to give vocational grants to individuals who are starting out in their preacher training or furthering their skills through training. Last year, James Hill submitted an application to LWPT to continue his studies at Oak Hill Theological College. As part of James’ tuition fees his wife, Josie, was also able to attend some lectures at no extra cost. To take full advantage of this, James decided to apply for a vocational grant from LWPT in order for Josie to work part time and be able to attend lectures to further her knowledge and input into the shared ministry they feel called to. LWPT was able to offer James a grant which meant that the financial burden was reduced and he was able to focus on his studies rather than having to find a part time job to supplement Josie’s wage and his student loan. ‘I feel I am developing my preaching skills while studying at Oak Hill. My intention, post college, is to seek out an assistant pastor position for experience and, God willing, work as the preaching pastor of a church for years to come.’ James Hill, grant recipient If you would like more information about LWPT grants, or are considering making an applic ation, visit us online at lwpt.org.uk/grants, or call the LWPT office (see page 1 for contact details).
