ICA Update No. 110 | Page 15

Athletics Hello ICA Community! My attitude of gratitude today is for all our P.E. & Wellness students and their most excellent adult instructors! Thank you to all who attended the WellEx event. My heart is full of pride and love for how we’ve taken this seed of vision and grown it into a pioneering program ahead of its time. Seeing our students in those pictures and videos, and talking to them as the semester pods came to a close, is my reminder of how fortunate I am. I would like to thank our program frienducators and all of our ICA Cristo Rey family who go on camping trips, walk up hills, drop in on Zumba or Filipino Martial Arts, climb rocks, ask students for help on your warrior pose, eat some tasty snacks from Food Ed on Mondays or use the gym for any kind of movement activity for your class. Thank you! With my loudest gym voice and the deepest heartfelt thanks, I humbly say, Let’s do this again next semester! Carolyn Sideco Athletic Director / Healthy Lifestyles & Wellness Program Coordinator Another multi-tasking teacher, Andrea Manchester, Religious Studies Dept. Chair, crafted and taught the much- needed Foundations of Christian Sexuality class to all of our 9th graders. Thanks to Amanda Lesky and her team (Cheryl, Nandi, Kendra and our own alumna Jasmine Ortiz) for teaching students recipes through the Food Education Project. Of course, our P.E. & Wellness Program also includes our athletic teams, so a grateful cheer goes to our fall sports coaches: • Matthew Tominaga, Media Designer, led our Golf team to doubling their win output from last year • Pat Steacy with AAA Division champions Varsity Volleyball • Debbie Aguilar (mother of Lili ‘20 and Bella ‘15) with JV Volleyball • Rachel Dulay, mother of Rosalie Lopez ‘06, our boomerang coach, with Cross Country Our very own Lauren Nazario, Social Studies Dept. Chair, and the folks at Mission Cliffs, encourage our students’ climbing on Friday afternoons. Also a shout out to Cori Coccia at Girl Ventures, who facilitated an outdoor climb at Castle Rock State Park. Joseph Bautista and Eskabo Daan Filipino Martial Arts visited ICA and taught students and faculty basic defensive skills to protect them if ever approached by an attacker. Coach Tam Nguyen and ICA newbie Kristine Casipe, Data & Gifts Processing, enthusiastically took the Wilderness Backpacking course lantern and kept it shining brightly! Bay Area Wilderness Training (BAWT) helped out with camping gear rentals. Hear that music? Yes! That’s Christine Coleman, personal counselor extraordinaire and Zumba instructor, who transitioned from a casual 7th period exercise session to twice-a-week Zumba sessions with 25 students per class.
