ICA Update Campus Ministry Here’s what some Campus Ministers had to say about the work they’ve done this year: “I feel blessed that I am able to serve my community through my work in campus ministry.” —Richelle ‘17 The 2015-2016 Campus Ministy team, juniors (top) and seniors The Campus Ministry Team Being a part of the Campus Ministry team is a call to recognize and live every day in the presence of God, to share your faith journey with others, and to actively build the kingdom of God in all that you do. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, Campus Ministers at ICA plan and celebrate ways to foster the four Dominican Pillars: Community, Prayer, Study, and Service. This year, the Director of Campus Ministry, Mrs. Kim Riener, assisted by our Dominican Volunteer, Ms. Hannah Abalos, worked together with a team of fourteen students to provide spiritual leadership to the ICA community. § Campus Ministry Life at ICA A core part of our experience on campus is a vibrant faith formation and an exposure to spirituality for all students. This is a priority for our community culture as we are grounded in the Dominican pillars that have guided ICA Cristo Rey for the last 133 years. We took a moment as the school year came to a close to speak with our Director of Campus Ministry, Kim Riener, as she concludes her first year of leading this core community component. Kim has a deep vision for our Campus Ministry Team that is centered around building relationships with God and developing student leaders who model our core values for their peers and the larger community. Kim says, “I hope that being a part of the Campus Ministry Team gives students the opportunity to deepen their relationship with God, through prayer and action, to reflect on and share their faith journey with others, and to actively build the kingdom of God in all the choices that they make. I hope that the Campus “I’ve become a lot less shy about my relationship with God.” —Melani ‘16 “As a result of being a part of Campus Ministry, my relationship with God has grown so much [that] I am much more aware of what Jesus would do, and am mindful in my decisions. I have grown so much in my comfort with my Spartan sisters and my leadership skills. Being a part of something bigger than myself has been such a gift.” —Jessica ‘17 Ministers give witness to others in the school of the value and importance of a life lived based on faith. I hope they are able to plan and celebrate ways to foster the four Dominican Pillars: Prayer, Community, Study, and Service in the ICA community.” This vision brings our mission to life and teaches incredibly valuable leadership skills to our students. This education trickles down to our whole ICA Cristo Rey Community through the core team leaders. Essentially, our approach infuses our values into Summer 2016 07
