ICA Update
CNA
The Carusos Visit ICA
On March 15, Elena and Jake Caruso visited ICA
to speak with seniors who have earned their
Certified Nursing Assistant licensure. Mr. and
Mrs. Caruso are in the health care business,
providing in-home services through Interim
Health Care; they were impressed reading
about the ICA/USF CNA Program in a recent
Update issue and wished to meet these special
soon-to-be graduates. We sat down for lunch
and conversation and the Carusos encouraged
our senior CNAs to consider applying to work
through Interim Health Care for weekend or
night shifts as they attend college, gaining
experience in the field and earning money
toward college tuition! We are so grateful for
the Carusos’ interest and support! §
Students Get "Pinned"
On May 24, Fr. Tim Godfrey, S.J. and other USF
Nursing School faculty opened the Cowell Hall Skills
Lab to welcome the 11 sophomores who will begin their
CNA training this summer. Parents joined in to get a
peek at where their daughters will be spending Fridays
during summer school; students were excited to imagine
themselves in scrubs and on a university campus in just a
few weeks!
On May 25, we gathered in the Skills Lab again to
celebrate the licensure of the 12 juniors who sat for their
CNA exam on May 16. The original cohort of 10, about
to graduate from ICA, joined in to support their new CNA
sisters and share their college destinations. Two of this
group will be attending the USF School of Nursing! Many
family members joined us for this happy celebration and
we were especially grateful that Gloria and Dennis O’Brien
were with us to witness the impact of their generosity. The
O’Briens make the ICA/USF CNA program possible and
so it is a special treat for students to get “pinned” by Mrs.
O’Brien as they are licensed. §
BLOCK Picnic on the Roof
Senior BLOCK welcomed newly selected junior BLOCK members at
the traditional “picnic on the roof,” May 19.
