Bristol

Port of Departure

Located in the Southwest of England, Bristol is the sixth city of England and the eighth of the United Kingdom in population. The city has a rich maritime heritage.

In the 14th century, Bristol turned into the third city of England, after London and York. The city was trading with several countries including Spain, Portugal and Iceland. In the year 1497, the port of Bristol was the point of the beginning of Jonh Cabot´s trip towards North America.

Bristol was not only one of the busiest trading seaports in England but also one of the wealthiest towns in the county of Somerset during late medieval times.

Bristol was one of the British ports with licence from the Crown to carry pilgrims to Santiago, most of them headed for A Coruña.
