t er’s life of growing up in the city tell the story. At first we wanted to follow Jabari Parker from Simeon H.S., but I thought his life was too great. So I went to a high school game and met Tyquone Greer, one of Orr High School’s rising stars and thought he was truly cut from the fabric that makes up the city of Chicago. We followed him and created this documentary around his progression in life. The name of the documentary is ‘Shot In The Dark’. We worked very hard shooting this film. We entered the Sundance film festival to showcase the documentary and we will premiere this film in various locations throughout 2017. Everyone will be able to purchase this film on Netflix and other outlets by 2018. “ PEOPLE DON’T UNDERSTAND HOW IMPORTANT THIS DOCUMENTARY IS GOING TO BE WHEN IT HITS THE STREETS OF CHICAGO. “ WHAT’S ONE OF YOUR MOST MEMORABLE MOMENTS BEING A YOUNG SPORTS WRITER IN THE CITY? DP: The first year I started writing was Derrick Rose’s senior year. He was a super star in my eyes. I wanted to interview him, but Coach Rob Smith didn’t allow his players to speak to the media. Ultimatley, Simeon won the state championship in Peoria and Derrick finally gave me an interview. It still stands one of my best interviews. I’m a 15 year old kid that didn’t have a ride back to the city from Peoria, so I hitch hiked a ride back to the city with the legendary Chicago Sun Times prep sports reporter, Steve Tucker, who helped me write the Derrick Rose story on the ride home. That was an amazing day as a young sports reporter. ANY LAST WORDS FOR THE CHICAGO BASKETBALL COMMUNITY? DP: I want to specifically speak to the former players and coaches in the city. ”YOUR WORK IS NEVER DONE!”. We have to help ourselves and be there for each other. The goal SHOULD NOT BE TO GET OUT THE HOOD, THE GOAL SHOULD BE TO RETURN TO THE HOOD AND MAKE THINGS BETTER. LogOn universalfanunion.com is the “illest sports and culture page in the land”.
