What is it like becoming the Excellence in
Practice Award winner at EFMD?
It is wonderful to be recognized for leading this ambitious
initiative to address problems associated with diabetes,
as it impacts so many lives around the world. I have
enjoyed bringing together a unique partnership across
organizational boundaries and a thriving community
of clinical leaders who are passionate about changing
services. It was inspiring to see such an astonishing effect
on the system without adding any extra resources.

Guy Lubitsh led the team from Hult Ashridge who, in
collaboration with Diabetes U.K. and Novo Nordisk,
was awarded Gold at the prestigious 2017 European
Foundation for Management Development (EFMD)
Excellence in Practice Awards.
Guy has also worked with the Care Quality Commission
(CQC) to improve the quality and safety of patient and
service user care. This work has been selected as a finalist
in three categories in the Training Journal Awards 2018:
Best Change Program, Best Organizational Development
Program, and Best Public Sector Program.
What do you appreciate about teaching at Hult Ashridge?
Having worked and lived in different countries, I love
the diversity of clients that we have at Hult Ashridge.
You constantly meet great leaders who, despite working
in diverse sectors, are grappling with very similar
challenges such as how to connect people across their
organizations with their wider strategic direction. It is
a privilege to be able to work on different levels and
bring about improvements in organizational culture
and performance.
Tell us about the other projects you work on outside of
the classroom and what you hope to take on next.
As a result of the EFMD award, we have been asked
by Arthritis Research U.K. to apply a similar model and
develop a network of Clinical Champions who are
advocates for change and quality improvement across
the healthcare sector. We are evaluating the outcomes
from our work and I hope that we can improve our
understanding on how to combine partnership solutions
to complex problems that are impacting today’s society.
In addition, I have been asked to teach senior clinical
leaders in Holland and Israel on how to improve
enterprising leadership in healthcare systems. We know
that the solutions for improving health care
are not about money but improving the quality of
culture and leadership.
