SACCS App With the introduction of a fantastic new confined space management App called SACCS - Safe Access & Control of Confined Spaces, an employer can have a survey conducted which will identify and highlight whether the area is categorised, as per the regulations as a confined space. The App will catalogue each space individually providing a categorisation of High, Medium or Low Risk confined spaces. At each point t hroughout the App, there is the opportunity to add media such as photos and videos and comments; this allows for up-to-date information to be available for interested parties to view. It will provide detailed information based on the actual entry point(s) and the internal space itself classifying these areas using a traffic light system; Red - high risk, Amber – medium risk & Green – low risk helping Managers prioritise when implementing control measures. If not deemed to be a confined space, the App will identify if the area being surveyed is classified as an enclosed or restricted space. It suggests minimum manpower, equipment and training requirements in terms of entry, rescue and sentry personnel. Upon completion of the survey, a PDF report of each space identified is available for downloading and can be provided on an external USB drive; this is particularly helpful if videos have been produced. Should they so wish, the employer can have access to the Admin Panel in the SACCS App, which allows: • • • • • instant access to all of its sites instant access to all of its spaces at those sites filters can be added to identify specific items i.e. boilers at all sites new sites can be added as well as new spaces redundant sites and spaces can also be removed • • Reminders are given when the whole survey or a specific space is due a review All information is stored securely as per the Data Protection Act See more at www.mrsl.co.uk Written by Billy Gundry Grad IOSH MCMI Operations Manager MRS Training & Rescue - Yorkshire About MRS Training and Rescue – the new name for Mines Rescue Service MRS Training & Rescue offer first class practical training in state of the art confined space facilities to prepare and train anyone who works in confined spaces, with re-assessment courses also available if required.
