ROSPA AWARDS 2017: SPEEDY SERVICES deliver excellence in both health and safety and long term sustainability / environmental performance.” Q This year, Speedy is celebrating its 40th anniversary - congratulations on this milestone! What is the key to your longevity? “Speedy’s huge range of tools, equipment, power and other hire essentials are the widest choice in the industry. However, every so often, customers come to us for help with something outside of our core range. This is where our Partnered Services come into play. “Through Partnered Services, we offer an extensive range of specialist products that aren’t already held within our fleet. This provision is unique to the sector and means that customers can come directly to us for absolutely all of their hire needs. Whatever you need, Speedy can deliver. “In addition, Speedy has achieved a very impressive geographical growth in its provision of services across England, Ireland, Europe, Kazakhstan and the Middle East, driven by its National and Commercial sales teams. This growth has been facilitated through a natural evolution in services; we provide power solutions and compressor solutions to the Petrochemical Industry. In addition, we offer solutions in the Nuclear, Offshore and Construction sectors. “Our diverse business proposition has certainly attracted many companies towards our services and is a key feature that separates Speedy from the field. Latterly, acquisitions such as Lloyds British Testing Ltd - a historic, specialist business which carries out training, testing, certification, and inspection of lifting equipment - have given Speedy an even more dynamic edge. “Speedy can supply lifting equipment and check if said equipment conforms to strict safety checks. Lloyds British Testing services also extend to our customers’ own lifting equipment; both complementing and enhancing our overall offering.” Q Can you tell us more about your ‘Intelligent Safety’ campaign? “Keeping our people and customers safe is at the heart of our business. Intelligent Safety is a new and enhanced programme at Speedy - a journey to competence that focuses on skills, knowledge and behaviour. “Speedy Intelligent Safety is threefold: 1. It’s our internal behavioural safety brand that drives a culture of adopting the safest activities. 2. It’s our external facing brand, helping customers make informed decisions – i.e. not just hiring a drill, but hiring a solution to the risks that may arise from using that drill (in dusty conditions, for example). 3. It’s about reducing risks for both Speedy and our customers. “Speedy Intelligent Safety has a dedicated website featuring products, videos, training, and health and safety support. Each safety topic contains information, facts, 60 HSE INTERNATIONAL products and solutions to help manage risks, plus training courses designed to improve competence. “I believe that if you have an environment where people want to learn, you are always going to improve.” Q Congratulations on your success as double Gold Award winners at the RoSPA Health & Safety Awards 2017! What does this achievement mean to you and Speedy Services? “For the third year running, Speedy secured the top-level accreditation at the RoSPA Health and Safety Awards! “These accreditations are important to our business as they send a message that we are serious about occupational safety. They also demonstrate that we not only match our words with actions, but also take our responsibilities seriously. “My team and I work tirelessly to help the business reach its safety goals. To reach this level of excellence, a company needs to achieve a consistent reduction in accident rates year on year. “It’s certainly good to get together around the table for successes such as these; to celebrate our exemplary safety record. It also gratifying to be recognised in this way, but we remember that we will only maintain our safety culture through ongoing innovation and maintaining our focus on operational safety and people’s health.” Q What is your approach to occupational health and well-being? “Speedy has its own employee self-help scheme that covers mental health, family matters, financial issues, stress, and a range of other health and personal topics which may arise during employment. “Speedy also supports bigger agendas such as ‘Mates in Mind’ – a construction industry initiative supporting mental health concerns in construction trades. “Alongside this, we conduct employee health checks, as you would expect, where employees are exposed to hazards (such as welding or spray painting). Our health checks are in place to monitor occupational risks. “This year we have launched the Speedy 5 ways to Better Health Programme, which provides lots of information to help employees make informed decisions about their health and wellbeing. “We also run a zero tolerance drug and alcohol scheme, where 10% of employees are randomly tested each year.” Q Are you a member of any associations and do you hold any accreditations? How do external organisations assist your company? “At Speedy, we’re committed to quality, health, safety, the environment and sustainability in every aspect of our business. “We have a raft of accreditations, including: • ISO 9001:2008 • ISO 14001:2004 • OHSAS 18001:2007 
