Our cover story this issue is an interview with Ian Garden , Managing Director of RigDeluge ®.
RigDeluge ® was born in 2012 with the aim of creating pioneering safety solutions for introduction to the oil and gas industry . Ian has developed innovative and patent protected products that solve problems encountered while reducing the associated costs with those problems experienced . The impetus for this was the Piper Alpha disaster , which killed 167 workers on 6th July 1988 off the coast of Aberdeen ; the world ’ s deadliest oil rig incident .
We previously featured RigDeluge ® in Issue 95 ( March 2015 ). Since then , Ian ’ s innovative products have undergone rigorous testing on oil rigs in the North Sea that spectacularly , have been 100 % successful . His efforts were recently rewarded via an exclusive licensing deal with TYCO Fire Products . Ian comments :
“ The deal with TYCO was to get everything out there , overnight , globally . The deal was signed in 2015 after TYCO reviewed our Free Flow Nozzles™ and CFT™ Adaptors for over 12 months . We need instant global presence for the innovations , which TYCO Fire Products noted they could achieve .”
An apparent issue within the offshore industry is changing people ’ s inherent attitudes and behaviours towards safety solutions , something which isn ’ t an easy thing to achieve and certainly won ’ t happen overnight . Ian continues :
“ People make changes when something bad happens . The trouble is , the bad thing happened 28 years ago , and yet nothing has significantly changed .
