OIL & GAS: RIGDELUGE®
RIGDELUGE®
get comfortable with that service and equipment and
don’t think they should change; if it is a like for service and
product, and the problem isn't apparent, why fix something
if it’s not broken?
“The key elements for designing the innovation are
also noted as the driver for the potential client to make a
change, an improvement and a safety enhancement while
saving money. These key drivers have allowed RigDeluge®
to be recognised as a safety-first company. We have been
awarded sole supplier contracts based on our innovations
as other suppliers cannot match the engineered safety
improvements or reduced operational costs associated with
them.
“It is a great recognition for us that the success of the
company is based around the success of the products. As
a company, I had never intended to supply a service but
our clients have forced this issue due to the success of the
products.”
Q. Can you tell us about RigDeluge® products,
services and pioneering capabilities?

“RigDeluge® currently offers six out of our 10 products
for sale and/or license; each having a certified patent or
applied for patent status.”
1 RigDeluge® Debris Draw Down Filter™
RIGDELUGE® CONCENTRIC FLOW TECHNOLOGY™
ADAPTOR (CFT™)
“This invention is noted as being a real game changer
- not only is it a life saver but it has also identified the
requirement for an environmental certification for all
products used in a salt water environment. A key driver for
this innovation was the Cullen Report regarding the Piper
Alpha Disaster failings.
“Looking at the recorded failings, these were not just
noted before the Piper Alpha – the very same failings are
still being noted today, 28 years after the disaster. So, the
CFT™ Adaptor was invented, to get water to the fire on first
time activation of the system where marine bi-products are
present in the safety critical firefighting system.
“Sprinkler heads ‘guaranteed’ to block where foreign
bodies are present in the delivery fluid will now operate as
designed.
“What this also means is that no longer will a ‘fail and
fix’ process be required, as there is an engineered solution
which improves performance while reducing the service
and maintenance regime required to continuously clean
blocked sprinkler heads.
“This for me was the first step to a system that will
become self-cleaning on operation rather than selfblocking.”
RIGDELUGE® REDUCING BUSH™ &
RIGDELUGE® DEBRIS DRAW DOWN FILTER™
“A second problem noted in the Cullen Report was that
pipes were blocking through delivery line contamination
and this required ʹroddingʹ to allow the delivery lines to be
cleaned. As noted, this was recorded before the fire, and
again, 28 years on, it still happens today.
“The service and maintenance costs to complete this are
also extensive so therefore, the RigDeluge® Debris Draw
Down Filter™ (DDDF™) was invented. When you couple

the DDDF™ with the RigDeluge® Reducing Bush™ you will
achieve the self-cleaning system which will turn the current
designs and system on their head 180 degrees.
“Simply switch it on and watch it operate as designed,
cleaning itself from the inside out.
THE RD44™ - THE SAFEST FLARE BOOM DELUGE
SYSTEM IN THE WORLD
“The RigDeluge® RD44™ Flare Boom Deluge System
(RD44™) is the first and currently the only certified flare
boom cooling system in the world, ensuring a safe working
environment on the flare boom for well test operators and
rig cooling technicians.
“The current rig cooling systems are seriously flawed
and have contributed to incidents and accidents in the
past. In a worst-case scenario, if a well test operator was
to fall off the flare boom while servicing the burner head
and become hung-up on their harness, there would be
a maximum of 5 minutes before asphyxiation. A rescue
team would have to get past the boom system and over
the hoses to pull the operator to safety, and then possibly
stretcher the operator back along the flare boom. This
would be impossible with current industry standard
designs blocking the flare boom walk way.
“Whilst working offshore, I spent a lot of time struggling
underne ath or past these systems.
