LUSU’s mission is to drive all staff and students to adopt eco-friendly habits such as eating locally-grown food, cycling, walking or using public transport instead of driving, recycling and being mindful of energy efficiency. As part of Lancaster’s commitment to serving quality, locally sourced, sustainable food, the Soil Association has awarded its restaurants Café 21 and The Lounge, the Gold ‘Food for Life’ Catering Mark for serving fresh and healthy meals using local and organic ingredients. Rob Sexton, Chief Executive of Soil Association Certification, said: “The Gold Catering Mark is a fantastic achievement and it is brilliant to see Lancaster University gaining recognition for serving great fresh meals made with seasonal, local and organic ingredients.
