SILKE COURTENAY 9 R&D Manager, Latex Ink & Dispersion San Diego, California In the next decade I believe we will see advancements in machine learning/artificial intelligence, to be more efficient and predictive both in personal life and business; microfluidics advances in life science, to allow for faster and better diagnostics; and 3D printing for additive man- ufacturing, to add faster turnaround and new opportunities for making products. We will also experience a total per- vasiveness of smart devices (functional textiles, wearables, health sensors), as well as new transport options, including electric vehicles as a true alternative to fossil fuels; driverless, safer vehicles; and viable supersonic air travel. In my own area of print chemistry, we will foray into digi- tal textiles with new pigmented ink solutions, and for the healthcare sector we can provide expertise on fluid tech- nology. The fifth-generation printhead design will enable ink developments with enhanced performance character- istics and provide the basis for even more sustainable ink solutions versus our current portfolio. As a print leader, HP will have the opportunity to explore printed electron- ics, printing sensors, and functional textiles, if we choose to invest in these areas. ANDREW BOLWELL Chief Disrupter, Global Head of Tech Strategy & Ventures Palo Alto, California I’m personally most excited by disruptive technologies that will help to truly unlock the human potential and make life better for everyone, everywhere. So many exciting technologies are coming to life around us that will enable these new experiences—artificial intelligence, virtual and augmented reality, IoT, synthetic biology, robotics, block- chain, 3D printing, and microfluidics. But I think the future will be less about any single technology or product per se, and more about the breakthrough experiences that a com- bination of these technologies will enable. What will these breakthrough experiences be? Well, that’s the million-dollar question, but they will help us work smarter, collaborate better, enjoy our lives more fully, solve global challenges, and live a longer, healthier life. For me it’s all about improv- ing the human experience. I feel lucky and honored to work for a company that will be at the forefront of creating them. 10 35
