Hyper Globalization Accelerated Innovation
Hyper Globalization arguably began 2,000 years
ago with the 6,000-km Silk Road that connected
Eurasia. However, the interconnection and
“flattening” of the world truly skyrocketed when
the Internet went mainstream. How and where
we design, sell, and manufacture products
has increasingly become both hyper-global
and hyper-local. It’s now easier than ever for
startups to scale globally and for companies in
emerging countries to become real challengers
to established multinational companies. This
dramatically bigger pool of challengers has the
power to disrupt markets and business models. The pace and breadth of innovation will continue to
accelerate. As new technology components mature
and become commoditized, they transform into
innovation “building blocks” that enable more
frequent breakthroughs. Emerging technology
trends in advanced manufacturing, artificial
intelligence (AI), augmented and virtual reality,
digital health, edge computing, security, robotics,
and 3D printing will deliver richer experiences
while also disrupting legacy industries.
