OUR MINDS Computer hardware and software allow our brain to access information faster, but they rely on our interaction. We ask Alexa a question, swipe our mobile phone screens, or gesture with a virtual reality controller. OUR BODIES Organ transplants and prosthetic advancements do amazing things for people—but they largely help us manage limitations and illnesses, not eliminate or transcend them. Extreme users are already turning their bodies into edge computing devices. In the near future, many of us will augment our cognitive capabilities via direct, seamless interfaces with computation and information. Medical advancements in areas such as tissue and genetic engineering point to a future in which we can correct or avoid physical limitations—not just manage them. HP’s Megatrends research explores the impact that global socioeconomic and technological forces will have on our Innovation Journal Issue Ten
