Sustainability Our partnership with Walmart is a case in point. Like HP, Walmart believes a commitment to sustainability can deliver significant and lasting environmental and social benefits, while improving the operation of its business. In 2017, Walmart announced an ambitious supply chain initiative, called Project Gigaton. Through this initiative, Walmart is working with suppliers, like HP, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by one billion metric tons from the production and use of the products it sells between 2015 and 2030. To put that into perspective, that’s the equivalent of taking more than 211 million passenger vehi- cles off the road for one year. HP is supporting Project Gigaton through GHG emissions reduction goals we set in three areas: • Products: Reduce the GHG emissions intensity of our product portfolio by 25 percent by 2020, compared 1 to 2010 • Deforestation: Achieve zero deforestation associated with HP brand paper and paper-based product pack- 2 aging by 2020 • Emissions: Reduce the GHG emissions from our global operations by 25 percent by 2025, compared to 2015 As a leader in sustainability, we will also support Walmart’s efforts by sharing best practices, case studies, and other information that we believe could help other companies as they set their emissions goals and work toward them. HP and its partners believe that sustainability is an innovation that drives brand loyalty, increases employee engagement, and delivers long-term business success. Working together—and with other businesses and orga- nizations across multiple industries—we are helping build a future where sustainability is part of the very fabric of business. 1. HP product GHG emissions intensity measures GHG emissions during product lifetime use per unit for personal systems and per printed page for printers based on anticipated lifetime usage. These values are then weighted by contribution of personal systems and printing products to overall revenue in the current year. These emissions represent more than 99% of HP product units shipped each year, including notebooks, tablets, desktops, mobile computing devices, and workstations; and HP inkjet, LaserJet, DesignJet, Indigo, and Scitex printers, and scanners.  2. Packaging is the box that comes with the product and all paper (including packaging and materials) inside the box. Secure and responsible recycling HP is committed to designing environ- mentally-responsible products that deliver data security to our customers. And that commitment doesn’t stop once a product reaches end of use. Whether returning products for reuse or recycling, we have estab- lished data destruction and recy- cling services that ensure sensitive information is handled properly. For example, all data left on storage de- vices is irrevocably destroyed during recycling. And the recycling process itself complies with governmental standards and all applicable environ- mental regulations. For enterprise customers, we can create customized solutions that ensure data is destroyed and units are recycled or reused in a way that meets even the most stringent indus- try and government requirements. We offer a certificate of destruction on request that guarantees we have properly destroyed the products and that the data cannot be accessed. Specialized reports can also be creat- ed that include customer details such as the serial numbers, part numbers, and asset tag numbers of all the recy- cled items. At the same time, we partner with state-of-the-art recycling facili- ties that process returns in an envi- ronmentally responsible manner. We hold partners to strict environmental standards and monitor their perfor- mance regularly, helping ensure that electronics are recycled and kept out of landfills. 45
