The property selling climate for my test was challenging to say the least.
Gathering economic storm clouds were dark and threatening. The stock
market was in turmoil. Each night, the leading news stories painted bleak
obituaries of record layoffs, blood on Wall Street and collapsing financial
markets around the globe. World leaders were meeting to plan an escape
from a forthcoming “global financial collapse”.
Newspapers struck fear into the hearts of readers with headlines like
“Global financial meltdown,” “The Great Recession,” “Worse than 1929,”
“Banks should be safe but who knows,” “Record layoffs” and “Shock
Market.”
Billionaire Warren Buffet told us the economy had “fallen off a cliff” and
made reference to an “economic Pearl Harbour”.
