Welcome to the global market
My first internet lesson was a frustrating experience. My local library
had just become “connected” and a library staff member was offering
free lessons. The only problem was that the connection was painfully
slow. It took forever for a basic page to load. The librarian was
frustrated too and offered me another lesson when the connection
improved. He called me a few months later to tell me their connection
was much better.
“Welcome to the global market” he announced to the small group.
“Think of the internet as a shop but you don’t need to hire staff or pay
light, phone or rent. You can now sell to anybody on the planet who has
an internet connection. Your challenge will be letting them know you
are on the net too.” I was rivited!
Within a couple of months, our first internet site was up and running.
It was clunky and slow but at least we were out there. I loaded our
