To visit along the way
SAN DONà di PIAVE
This large inland town is a convenient
mooring spot for the night. It has a monu-
mental historic centre that’s worth visiting
just a short way from the mooring, and a
lovely riverside park that is busy on sum-
mer days with people playing and picnick-
ing.
PORTO S. MARGHERITA
Porto Santa Margherita is a resort with
beaches and plenty of ports to dock at. It
is a recently built area, popular during the
summer months and almost uninhabited
during the cold months.
CAORLE
Its origins go back to the first century AC.
Today, it is one of the prettiest towns in
the eastern Veneto, with its 18-km long
beach with golden sand. In addition to its
gorgeous beaches and millennial histor-
ic centre, the inland valleys and lagoons
are worthy of note. The Caorle Valleys are
about an hour away inland by the large
navigable Canale Nicessolo that joins with
the Lemene River that leads to Concordia
Sagittaria.
Concordia Sagittaria
and Portogruaro
About two hours from Caorle, this town
has ancient origins, dating all the way back
to the Roman Empire when it was a major
commercial port.
Near the village centre is an imposing
15th-century cathedral and a Roman bap-
tistery in the shape of a Greek cross deco-
rated with medieval frescoes inside.
A short way from Concordia along the
Lemene River is the small and attractive
town of Portogruaro. Eye catching and the
main attraction are the Gothic municipal
building with dovetail battlements and an
external staircase, and the imposing Du-
omo overlooking the canal, in a large pe-
destrian area.
BIBIONE
Bibione is basically a summer beach re-
sort; the lagoon behind is spectacular with
many species of birds and swans.
