Bali has always been on the destination
radar, but Melanie Hall is putting it firmly
on the design map. Her first property, Luna2
Private Hotel in fashionable Seminyak is
already a playground for a jetsetting mix
of singles or couples, with or without kids.
Luna2 Studios, uniquely known as a “studiotel”, launched recently and is fast becoming
a new landmark thanks to its ability to
propel its ‘Lunatics’ to cosmic heights of
dining, quaffing, lounging and sleeping.
Demonstrating her signature style, combining nostalgia, futurism and fun, the former
Head of Creative for Asia Pacific at Calvin
Klein paints a new picture of modern Bali.

Retro-modern luxury on Bali’s hippest
beachfront
Melanie, founder and designer of Luna2, was
inspired largely by her father, an architect in
the 50’s and 60’s, who passed on his love of
modern design of that era. Over time and
thanks to her extensive travel, Melanie has
honed her own distinct style, aptly referred
to as “FUNked-up modernism.”
At Luna2 Studios, the 1960s-inspired
“bubble-icious” façade leads into the lobby
which features artwork referencing Dutch
artist Piet Mondrian, setting the tone of a
primary colour scheme woven throughout.
Monopoly-esque corridors lead to each of
the fourteen studios, featuring one of four
accent colors – yellow, green, red or blue
– and offers modular open-plan lounges,
equipped with the latest mod cons. For those
looking for a bit of play, choices include the
intimate Orbit restaurant, the understatedly
decadent pop! lounge bar playing Lunatunes
till the early hours of the morning and even
its own private cinema, Lunaplex! There is
a clear emphasis on intimacy and personal
service, to satisfy the needs of the guests’
high-octane lifestyles.
Melanie’s impeccable taste, multi-disciplinary creative background and broad travel
experience have given her properties not
only a wide range of references from art to
space travel, but also a distinct welcoming,
playful vibe.
