Letter
from the chairman
Dear Colleagues,
We have come to the last newsletter of the year. Some educational reading in
between casting your rod into the cool waters of the coast or as your fire burns to
braai ready coals. I am sure that you will all agree it was a busy year, they do not
seem to get less busy. It started with an expanded congress that was well attended by
members and trade. Next year’s congress will be a bit smaller, but is already promising
to be interesting with a legal update, nutrition, parasite control and some of the
regular topics. There will again be pre-congress workshops. It will be held near Lanseria, please see the flyer for
the congress and keep space on your diary to be enlightened and for a catch up and “kuier”.
Dr Luca Mendes has written two articles on forensic post mortem of a poached rhino from a veterinary
perspective and an investigation of a suspected anthrax case. Dr Rick Last has again given us an interesting case
of a springbok with lumpy skin disease.
There have been many members over the year pushing the interests of the group such as Joseph van Heerden,
Gary Bauer, Stuart Mckernan, Johan Marais and of course the committee. Thank you for the work that you have
done, which often goes unnoticed, but helps maintain and improve our working environment.
We hope you get some rest and family time over the festive time and be blessed.
Happy vetting
Greg
