seen. “It’s actually a replica,” said Mike
Kirkhart, owner of New Wave Taxidermy in
Stuart Florida. Until now, most replica mounts
I’d seen up were just cheesy assembly line
molds, cranked out in bulk then stroked with
one or two coats of paint, but this was a
true work of art, and on the cutting edge of
a new era in taxidermy. “We take your fish
measurements and based on its length, girth,
and reference photos, recreate that exact
fish using proprietary technology,” explained
Kirkhart. And as one would guess, each piece
is meticulously detailed one spot at a time by
Kirkhart himself, so there is a long waiting list,
