OUTDOOR FURNITURE
FOR THE COAST
WITH TARA SHARP
FROM THE FURNITURE SHACK
When it comes to outdoor furniture, the
conditions we face here at the Coast are
some of the most testing in the world. As
a consumer, this means that you must
be careful when choosing your outdoor
furniture to ensure longevity and value for
money. What seems like a good deal at the
time really can unravel (no pun intended),
particularly with wicker products that can’t
withstand the harsh climate.

CLINICAL PILATES -
MORE THAN JUST THE “CORE”
WITH ADAM DANIELS
FROM PHYSIOTHERAPY LINKS
Clinical Pilates is well known for its use by
physiotherapists in injury rehabilitation,
especially for lower back pain. The long-
accepted, traditional theory is that Pilates
helps to engage the “core muscles”,
thereby increasing core stability. Clinical
Pilates however is much more versatile
than solely a means of increasing
abdominal strength.
Here are our top tips for selecting the right
outdoor furniture for your home.
We had an intensely hot summer this year,
and with winter on its way, now is the time
to take stock of your skin. Air-conditioners,
heaters and the wind all impact the
hydration of your skin. Follow these simple
steps to minimise the effects of these
elements.
Step 1: Cleanse on a daily basis, preferably
morning and night.
Clear your pores and let them breathe
while you sleep. Exfoliating regularly will
get rid of all the dead skin cells.
Look for UV Stabilised Materials
Your outdoor furniture needs to withstand
harmful UV rays and extreme weather
conditions. Look for non-toxic, recyclable
materials that have been stablised by UV
technology.
Opt For Aluminum
You don’t want your gorgeous outdoor
table or lounge to rust or corrode – it’s
not a great look. Look for frames that
are aluminum machine welded to avoid
corrosion.
Not All Rattan Is Created Equal
Wicker and rattan settings look great and
add an interesting tactile element to your
outdoor spaces but know that cheap is not
always best. Look for synthetic materials
that withstand the outdoor elements and
won’t easily break down. Polyethylene
fibres are extremely durable and offer the
best longevity.

Step 2: Moisturise.
You are never too young (or old!) to start
moisturising. Don’t forget your neck and
décolletage.
Step 3: Drink lots of water.
Think of your body as a car and water
its petrol. You want it to run clean and
healthy.
Step 4: Eat healthy.
Good skins starts on the inside so opt for a
mix of fruit and vegetables.
Step 5: Exercise.
Our bodies need oxygen and by exercising
we are breathing deeply and getting that
air into our lungs and oxygen flowing.
Good circulation encourages skin cell
regeneration and glowing skin.
Step 6: Laugh and have fun.
They say that laughter is the best medicine,
and studies have shown that this is true.
Laughter reduces stress and anxiety which
all have effects on our skin.
Step 7: Have a regular facial.
