Carefree The Cottages offer year-round activities, lovely cottages, and great amenities. L Linda Blaschuk, a dental assistant, and her husband Charlie, a geotechnical consultant, wanted a simpler life in a smaller home. They moved permanently to The Cottages nestled in British Columbia’s Okanagan region. They were captivated by the cottage look with vaulted ceilings, screened-in porches, and year-round living. Living at The Cottages means they no longer worry about home renos and yard work. The Blaschuks originally lived 20 kms north of Osoyoos Lake, where The Cottages are located. They now live in a ‘Bing’ home. “We love the vaulted ceiling, loft, and screened-in porch.” The Cottages offer recreational and social activities at their community centre. The Blaschuks enjoy using the fitness room and pools/hot tub. With its own water treatment facilities, underground fibre optics, and geothermal heating and cooling, The Cottages ensure residents live in comfort and security. There is 1,800 sq. ft. of waterfront on Osoyoos Lake and walking trails. The Blaschuks spend summer afternoons swimming in the warmest lake in Canada and soaking up the rays on their private sandy beach. Evening boat cruises on Osoyoos Lake are also spectacular. Nearby towns offer entertainment, amenities, and medical care. The Blaschuks enjoy being part of the south Okanagan community. Linda belongs to the Sagebrushers Art Club in Oliver and works one day a week at a local winery. Charlie is a member of the Fairview Golf Club and Curling Club in Oliver. The couple has also taken Tai Chi classes in Osoyoos and volunteered for events. Close to The Cottages are wineries, farms, and mountain bike and hiking trails. For winter fun, skiers and snowboarders can reach Penticton’s Apex mountain and Mount Baldy after a short drive. “Family and friends love the resort atmosphere that the development offers,” the Blaschuks comment. The Blaschuks are happily surprised to have so many great neighbours. - Text by J. Lynn Fraser “FAMILY AND FRIENDS LOVE THE RESORT ATMOSPHERE. THEY ENJOY DRINKS ON THE PATIO, MEALS ON THE PORCH, SWIMMING AT THE LAKE OR POOLS, AND PLAYING IN THE LARGE MEADOW.”
