‘disappears’ against the wainscoting reducing their visual weight.
“White is crisp, bright, and refreshing,” Marina notes.
Peeps and pops of purple and teal appear in the room’s accessories,
linens, rug, and accent pillows. “Colour is important,” Marina notes. A
“scarf banderole” cheerfully flutters across one window. It uses fabric
remnants from the room’s custom pillows providing a visual narrative
that connects the room’s colours. In designing for a space, Marina
advises using “one element of a finish in threes is distributed in the
room.”
The rattan ‘swing’ chair adds seating that requires no floor space.
Its open weave, like that of the room’s rattan storage baskets, add to
the room’s airiness. A Moroccan white leather “poof”, Marina feels, is
“practical and perfect.” Along with the teal side table, it adds a slim
whisper of a Moroccan theme. “I never want to read too much into a

theme in a design.” The teal-coloured rug ‘floats’ on the dark cherry
paneled floors, adding to the illusion of a large room. Having friends
or family as clients can be difficult for designers.
“I love them,” Marina gushes about her daughters. “I really wanted to
make them happy.” “And, they were happy,” Marina says with a smile.
