Myth #3: You have to eliminate food groups to transform. Incorrect! At Hitch Fit we don’t believe in eliminating food groups. If you have allergies or sensitivities to certain foods, then that’s another story. When you eliminate food groups, it’s a very difficult lifestyle to sustain for the long term. More often than not, we see people who cut out certain food groups (like carbohydrates) in order to lose weight quickly. Now this can work in the short term, but what will typically happen is weight will be regained when the elimination diet just gets to be too much. Keep things balanced! Myth #4: You can never have a cheat meal a gain. False!! Now it is true that during a transformation time frame, we encourage clients to be as close to 100% as they can. During this very brief period of time (seriously 12 – 16 weeks is not a long time in the big scheme of things!), if you can stay on track the majority of time, then results will occur most efficiently. It also helps you overcome cravings or addictions (for example, if you say you have a sugar craving, and then continue to eat sugar every day…guess what, that craving isn’t going to go away). It can help you overcome false mindsets of thinking that you “HAVE” to have cheats. You don’t have to. Nothing bad is going to happen if you don’t! That being said. Having some cheats and treats is a part of a healthy and balanced lifestyle. There’s no need to binge on something because you think you’ll never have it again, or because you’re telling yourself that you need to get in as much as possible. You can relax when it comes to having cheat meals as a part of a normal healthy lifestyle! The best time to start incorporating them is when you are at a place where you would like to maintain. Do note that there is a difference between an occasional treat and cheat vs. going back to old eating habits or having cheat meals or days on a regular basis! You can’t expect your body to be fit and healthy if you don’t feed it well the majority (I recommend 80% during maintenance) of the time. Myth #5: You can’t cheat during transformation. Not true again! Here’s the thing. You CAN cheat. No one is stopping you. No one is going to hold you down and force feed healthy foods to you. No one is going to lock up all cheats and treats so you don’t have access to them. You can cheat if you want. It’s your transformation. You will get out what you put in! Cheating is a choice. If you choose to cheat regularly, the only one missing out on a rock star transformation is you. You may shed 5 pounds instead of 50. Well, that’s progress in the right direction, so it’s really up to you to determine if that is sufficient for you or if that’s what you’re truly capable of! So you see, it’s not about “can’t” cheat. You can do whatever you would like!! But if you say that you have a goal, and you truly want to achieve it, then you will want to make every choice possible that gets you closer to, rather than further away from that goal. You reach a point where you simply don’t want to cheat, because that isn’t something that helps you to get where you want to be. Make that simple mental switch in perception and the sky will be the limit for you.
