What is the European Council?
■ The European Council brings together the President or Prime Ministers of the EU
countries. They meet 4 times a year in events called ´European summits‘. The
Council sets the EU´s main priorities and the policy directions. It is chaired by a
President who is elected every 2 and a half years.
■ The Council does not adopt EU laws.
