However, the Derby was to prove Dawn Approach’s undoing. After being set alight in the early stages, the weeks of debating whether or not Jim Bolger’s colt would – or could – stay the trip were answered as he finished a tailed-off last. Thirty three lengths ahead, Aidan O’Brien’s Ruler Of The World crossed the line triumphant, becoming a 6V6
