Tracey is studying her Bachelor
of Communications degree,
majoring in public relations and
journalism, externally at USQ.
study sessions. She says it
has been fantastic having her
fellow students support and
someone to bounce ideas off.
Tracey has always loved writing,
and although she worked
after leaving high school, she
realised her career options
were limited without furthering
her education.
Studying online was important
for Tracey because her family
moved to Christmas Island in
2012. Tracey says Christmas
Island has been the perfect
place to study because it is
very peaceful with limited
distractions.
While working for an
organisation in Perth, Tracey
was able to observe the role
the organisation’s PR team
played. “I thought it looked like
the perfect job”, she recalls.
Although studying from a small
island in the Indian Ocean may
seem very isolating, Tracey
stays in contact with her study
friends through Facebook and
Skype and organises online
Once Tracey graduates, she
intends to start a consultancy
with some colleagues to deliver
community development and
engagement solutions, event
management and PR advisory
services. “I think I’ve found my
niche”, she says. Tracey is also
currently looking at postgraduate
study options at USQ.
