Features 29 SUCCESSFUL VIDEO INTERVIEWS with Tessa McCredie Have you had a video interview? Do you know how to prepare for one? Video interviewing is one of the biggest technology disruptors of the recruitment industry and is becoming more and more commonplace. Video interviews can offer you the opportunity to stand out in the early stages of an application process and showcase your professional self. 1. C heck your equipment! 2. Plan and prepare in advance. Video interviews rely on your technology. Set the camera up just above eye level to avoid shadows and strange angles and check the sound quality beforehand. Make sure you have a tidy background to avoid distracting employers. This includes practising your answers to technical and behavioural questions that you might also expect in a face to face interview. Make sure you have done your homework on the organisation and the role you are applying for so that you can incorporate this information into your answers. 3. Maintain eye contact, show creativity and be presentable. Appearance still matters – dress just as you would for a face to face interview, be confident, show your personality and stay strictly on task.
