uni life STUDENT TECH BYTES You’ve seen the promotions for the Student Tech Byte Sessions, but you’re not really sure what all of the hype is about? Well question no more. The first session of Student Tech Bytes took place on the 1st of March. Byte 1 looked at the different ways in which we can use Microsoft Word to style and format our assignments within university standards. As a current USQ Business student I found the first session exceptionally helpful. I learnt many simple, yet constructive skills which actually made me mad, because I wondered ‘how didn’t I know this already?’ Well thank goodness I attended is all I can say! No longer do I need to allow a week to finalise my assignments to make them look presentable because of the many skills I’ve recently acquired. Word offers many different automated options which allow your documents to automatically incorporate citations, tables of contents, list of tables, references and bibliographies. These were some of the many specific skills which I found helpful, not only for writing assignments but letters, reports and lecture notes. Yes that’s correct… options that can actually help you to do your references and bibliographies… Thank you Word! Simple skills such as, heading styles, fonts, colours, sizes, line & paragraph spacing and show hide keys were also incorporated into the session. I found the session extremely productive and would highly recommend registering for the second Byte! These short, sharp, focused and ‘How do I’ sessions are remarkably useful. It’s easy to think we’ve got the Microsoft Office suite down pat, but a little brushing up is always necessary. Each session is available on-campus and online.
