uni life LEADERSHIP USQ PHOENIX CENTRAL Benefits of leadership opportunities while studying When I first began studying at uni in 2011, I spent a lot of time studying, completing assignments and hanging out with my friends, but I felt that something was missing. All through high school I was involved in lots of different extracurricular activities and had embraced leadership opportunities and it didn’t take me long to realise I wanted to continue to do so at uni. Taking on a leadership role or participating in leadership seminars and workshops can help you to develop your management, problemsolving, negotiation, teamwork and communication skills. Leadership opportunities will also help you to grow your confidence, discover new talents and establish networks and friendships. The skills and experiences you gain through leadership opportunities help to distinguish you from everyone else when graduation rolls around and you start to look for work. Both paid and voluntary leadership opportunities are offered at USQ and I encourage everyone to get involved. These opportunities are too numerous to list but include Student Ambassadors, Meet-Up leaders, Orientation leaders, Dare Mentors, Student Representative Committee and many more. Students who reside in the Residential Colleges also have additional leadership opportunities open to them, including becoming a Student Network Coordinator or becoming a member of the Collegiate Team or Resident Student Club Executive. If you’re not sure if you can commit to a leadership position, USQ also runs leadership seminars and workshops for students.
