TOURNAMENT
Recently Phoenix Central hosted their
inaugural FIFA 15 tournament on USQ’s
Toowoomba campus. Instead of holding
a physical football tournament, students
competed using their video game skills.
The tournament took place over two weeks
in the refectory and students faced off
against each other using the team of their
choice (Real Madrid was a popular choice).
After a gruelling run of knock-out
fixtures featuring 26 of Toowoomba’s
best gamers, the matches were heated
and drew the attention of many onlookers in the refectory to the big
screens.
After Sam Gray took out the bronze
medal in style, the final boiled down to
two of the best: Wai Ateny as Borussia
Dortmund vs Deng Ajak as Real Madrid.
Finishing 3-3 in a thrilling 90 minutes (or
10 minutes real time), Wai ran away
with the game in extra time, winning 5-3
and taking home the gold with some
fantastic attacking football.
