Soccer has been a big part of my
life… a whole 12 years of it. This year
I decided it was time to roll down the
socks, unstrap the shin pads, pull the
laces from my boots and have a yearlong break so I could enjoy sleep-ins
and having that extra little bit of time
for study on weekends.
Moving away from your family to study
at university can mean some pretty big
changes. Having an understanding of
the things you will be expected to be
able to do for yourself before you leave

In my second year of university I
decided to play at The Northern Uni
Games, an event that allows likeminded student athletes in university
and TAFE institutions to compete
against each other in their chosen
sport. I haven’t played netball since high
school so I was a little nervous, but the
pre-Games training sessions have been
really helpful to brush up on my skills.
