Packing
Excited about my new gumboots, Tom made me realise
there’s a lot more to packing than just my favourite
wellies! ‘It will be cold’ Tom suggests packing a jumper,
although not your best one, it will be put through its
paces with mud, dust and sweat. Whilst you can rely
on your phone , you don’t want to miss your fav act
because your phone died and you lost track of time.
Packing a watch as a backup is a must! ‘Don’t pack your
Raybans!’ Tom’s tip for sunglasses, is not to pack your
best pair; if you are sticking around for the evening you
risk losing them when you take them off.
Camping
As an experienced Splendour camper, Tom stresses the
importance of getting in early for your best chance
at a prime campsite, which he tells me will be close to
three things; toilets, showers and the festival entrance.
It is also important to scope out your neighbours
early, because ‘your neighbours have the potential to
be your best friend, or your worst enemy’. I laugh as
he tells me I may want to draw up a mud map from
the festival to my tent for those late-night walks back
to the campsite... he knows my sense of direction is
questionable.
Festival
With four Splendours under his belt, Tom had so much
to share when it came to making the most of your
Splendour experience. ‘Don’t see a band, just for the
sake of seeing them,’ there is more to do at splendour
than see bands. This year The Guardian sponsor the
Splendour Forum, so you can join with thinkers,
politicians and musicians for live discussions, debates,
