The Northern UniGames
Launch Cup 2015
Australian University Sport officially launched
the Northern UniGames at the beginning
of April, and it will be a big year for USQ as
hosts in Toowoomba.
As part of the launch tradition, USQ and several
other universities in attendance took part in
the Launch Cup, a pre-Games mini tournament
featuring a different sport each year.
This year’s chosen sport was mixed futsal
and USQ entered two teams to face off
against other Queensland universities. In a
field of 8, the USQ teams finished 4th and
5th respectively, a decent result against
tough opposition.
‘The Launch Cup is run to build some hype
around the Northern UniGames,’ said
Phoenix Central’s Jared Greenstreet, who
is excited about USQ’s involvement in the
tournament this year.
‘We’ve had 207 students register for the
USQ team this year, which is a record
amount!’
Within that number, there will be 5 different
futsal teams, as well as strong numbers in
a range of different fields, something USQ
supporters can be very excited about.
With the countdown to July now officially
started, be sure to get behind team USQ!
Check out the USQ website for more details.
